Loading livestock to a heavy vehicle is a dangerous task. The incidence of injury and workplace deaths linked to the use of livestock loading facilities has long been a significant concern.

In 2015, the Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) published the Guide for safe design of livestock loading ramps and forcing yards and in 2020 this document formed the basis of the Australian Standard AS 5340:2020 Livestock loading ramps and forcing pens.

To encourage facility owners to review the safety of existing loading facilities, and to install new facilities that meet the national standard, ALRTA is conducting a national survey to establish the extent of safety incidents at livestock loading facilities and the level of injury and reporting. Your input will help to establish national baseline data and potentially contribute to the case for safer facilities.

If you’re a livestock operator involved in loading or unloading, they want to hear from you. All data is anonymous and the survey is open until Monday 29 March 2021.
