The Queensland Government’s budget, handed down on 15 June 2021, includes welcome support for skilling and training initiatives in the state.

The Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative will continue to provide targeted programs designed to equip disadvantaged jobseekers with the skills, qualifications and experience needed to enter and stay in the workforce. The next round of funding applications is due to open in late June 2021.

The Back to Work program will be revitalised, providing eligible businesses with the confidence to employ Queenslanders who have experienced unemployment and to help workers facing disadvantage in the labour market.

Partnership will continue with the Australian Government through investment in the JobTrainer fund, delivering free or low-fee training places to jobseekers, school leavers and young people.

Other key highlights include the allocation of funds to complete the Renewable Energy Training Facility, the Hydrogen Training Centre of Excellence at the Queensland Apprenticeship Centre at Beenleigh and continued investment in the building and modernising of TAFE facilities across the state.
