The Maritime Industry Australia Ltd (MIAL) have released their report – Diversity – Women in Maritime.
The analysis reviews the data and perspectives on how gender diversity is considered and addressed within organisations operating within the Australian maritime industry.
MIAL’s Seafaring Skills Census quantified the concern of industry after it showed that the Australian maritime sector has a projected shortage of 560+ seafarers by 2023. It also highlighted the low level of female representation in roles where seafaring skills are considered essential.
The Report provides findings on workforce statistics, company strategy and company policy, initiatives to promote gender diversity, recruitment, culture and barriers to entry. It will also be a useful source of information to determine where efforts should be focused in the development of practical initiatives that can be implemented within industry.
