The Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements program launched last year, quickly became fully subscribed at the maximum 100,000 participants in less than five months.

On Tuesday 9 March, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that the program will be extended for a full 12 months and the participant cap removed.

This means that any business or Group Training Organisation engaging a new or recommencing apprentice or trainee between 5 October 2020 and 30 September 2021, may be eligible for a subsidy of 50% of wages paid to the apprentice or trainee for a 12 month period from the date of commencement, to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter.
